The landscape design brief.
Sarah & Andrew wanted a landscape design which would turn their tired old garden into a beautiful, bespoke, funky, landscaped garden for their family, and friends. Please watch the video transformation of this project below. For a better result turn your volume up too! Enjoy.
A large 3 ring circular sandstone patio area was requested for an Alfresco dining area in the summer. This was constructed at the top right-hand side of their new garden landscape, where the old shed used to be. Sandstone steps lead up to the patio area. The old garden was raised in order to be able to put this raised circular patio area in for Andrew and Sarah. The sun hits this back right-hand side area of the garden every morning, this will provide a perfect patio area for Andrew and Sarah to sit and eat breakfast together on a summer’s morning.
Sarah and Andrew also asked us to design and install a beautiful, curved, timber decking area outside of their French doors. Outdoor decking lights were also seated into the new timber decking – They will twinkle beautifully in the evening. The existing French doors open fully on to the new timber curved decking area. The timber decking was constructed in a curved design which continues along the back of the house. This means that Sarah and Andrew can step straight onto their new decking from their kitchen door or their French Doors.
Sarah and Andrew’s lawn was very old and had seen better days, it also sloped downwards towards their house. We raised the level of the ground by bringing in more topsoil then a new turf lawn was installed and levelled.
A French Garden drainage system was installed underneath the new lawn before the new turf was laid.The garden drainage will ensure that the newly turfed lawn does not hold water or flood when it rains.
The landscape design solution
Green Onion Landscaping discussed shapes for Sarah and Andrews’s lawn. We suggested that their new lawn be large and circular, in fact, two large circular lawns that met each other, like a large number eight. A cobbled edge was constructed around the edge of the new lawn. This defines the lawn’s shape and makes lawn mowing much easier!
The newly turfed curved lawn sweeps through the curved garden decking area. The raised brick-built flower beds are also curved. The newly turfed circular lawn looks stunning – A real eye-catching feature of this new garden design.
Sarah and Andrew have a large concrete sectional garage that encroaches into their garden space. Green Onion Landscaping made this ugly garage wall look far more appealing with a lick of purple Masonry paint. This made a feature of the garage wall which blends nicely into the new garden design. After the wall was painted trellis was added to each side where beautiful Clematis plants were then planted.
Green Onion Landscaping replaced all the old panel fencing with new close board fencing. The entire garden fence was then painted with green fence paint. The old rockery, which was dated and tired was dismantled and disposed of. In its place our professional team of landscapers built a curved brick wall which became the gorgeous planted area you can now see. All the plants, trees, hanging baskets, and shrubs were provided and planted by Green Onion Landscaping.
A smaller sandstone patio area was constructed behind Sarah and Andrew’s shed. This is a secret hideaway area where they have placed a garden bench. A place where they can sit and read and enjoy a quiet brew without being disturbed, seen, or found by the kids.
