How to kill garden weeds

Getting on top of weeds early in the season means that you should be able to prevent them from seeding and becoming a worse problem. Hoeing your borders once a week works extremely well. Perennial weeds, such as Dandelions will always come back if they are hoed off. To get rid of these permanently use a weed killer that contains glyphosate.

After a winter of neglect, your garden lawn will benefit from some TLC. Start mowing your lawns once a week, beginning with the lawnmower blades at their highest setting and gradually lowering them over the weeks. For a perfect lawn finish, trim the edges of the lawn with long-handled shears or a grass trimmer. Bare or thin patchy grass can be thickened by raking over the surface and then re-sowing with grass seed. Lastly, give your lawn a good old feed. If it contains weed or moss then treat these at the same time with a lawn weed and feed treatment.

Sweet Peas should be planted near supports for them to climb up. After pinching out sweet peas last month, they should have a strong side shoot that will flower well. Early sowing of salads should be ready to pick now. Cut off the leaves, rather than pulling up the entire plant, they should re-sprout news leaves. Sow a pinch of seeds every few weeks to have a succession of leaves to harvest through the spring and summer. Good salads to try would be loose-leaf lettuce, rocket, mizuna, and mustard.
